    How to Repair Osceola Shingles

    July 22, 2016

We all know summers in Florida mean hurricane season, and any damage to your home can be a hassle to fix especially damages that pertain to your roof. You should call the roofing experts, but if you want to do some simple inspections on how to repair Osceola shingles, these are the things to look for.

    Practice Proper Safety Measures

The first thing you DO NOT want to do is go up to the roof in sandals or open-toed shoes to repair Osceola shingles. Make sure you have gripping boots that are appropriate for the roof so you do not slip and fall. Heavy duty gloves will also come in handy when dealing with the objects and it will prevent you from hurting your hands. Make sure you have a sturdy ladder to go up.Having a companion is always best, just in case something may happen to you, that person can help you.

    Determine The Problem

Locate the damaged area of shingles and determine how many new shingles you may need. Are the shingles around the damaged area curled and pulled up from the roof? If the surrounding shingles have moisture in the area, you'll need to replace everything in the square around the damaged area. Evaluate if it is best to reroof the house, instead of repairing a section of the roof when the rest of the roof is damaged old and brittle.

Make Sure The Weather Is In Your Favor before you repair Osceola shingles

Hot weather will make the shingles moldy and harder to remove, cooler weather makes the shingles more crisp and easier to remove. Starting this task earlier in the day or later in the afternoon might be more beneficial to you, choose a time that works best for you.

    To Remove The Damaged Shingle

Loosen the adhesive underneath the tabs of the damaged shingle, and pull them out. If you notice the shingles severely damaged do not try and restore them. Call in an expert to make sure that you repaired all shingles that are in need of being repaired.

    Obtain Proper Materials For Replacement

In order to property repair Osceola shingles, take a sample of your shingle to a home repair store and match the shingle to one similar. You should be able to count up how many damaged shingles you will need to replace and buy accordingly. It's good to have several replacements shingles accessible. Some shingles come with adhesive strips already installed, but if yours does not, you will need to purchase shingle cement or adhesive. Lastly, to secure the shingle you'll need heavy-duty roofing nails, that are about two or three inches long.

    Install The New Shingle

Place the new shingle in the same position as the shingle you removed. If there is an adhesive strip attached to the shingle, remove the covering and push them into place, then nail them to make sure it is secure. Most shingles have pre-cut holes to help with the installation process.

Repair Shingles by Sealing The Edges

Lift each tab slightly on the shingles as

you install them, and apply an inch spot of shingle cement under each tab. Firmly press tabs down into the cement and secure the shingle into place. Continue this process until you have replaced all the damaged shingles along the row.

    Fix Instead Of Replace

If while you're on the roof, you notice cracked shingles, use shingle adhesive to repair Osceola  shingles the best you can. Line the crack with a generous amount of adhesive and stick it back together to repair it. Hold it in place for several seconds and let it seal.

Here’s a Tip to Repair Osceola Shingles:

Shingles will always need to be removed when they're brittle, curled, or difficult to pin back down. If the shingle is crumbling as you work on it, that's a sign that the shingle, most of the shingles in that area, and possibly the rest of the roof may need redone.

We hope these steps were helpful to you. Remember, you should always get an expert to look at your roof. Trying the above at home could mean more leaks or the possibility that your roof needs replacing. Not all roofing companies are the same. Over The Top Roofers prides itself on making sure your roof is inspected and you are quoted well. Not all roofs need to be replaced.
