How to Locate Your Winter Park Roof Leak
May 23, 2017

Your Winter Park roof leak can cause more damage leaving it unattended. Although it may difficult to find, not repairing it can allow for mold and mildew to grow. Here are easy ways you can spot a leak in your home.
Â
Florida summers are always brought with afternoon showers, just like clock work. Too much rain can penetrate through the roof causing roof leaks. Do you know how to locate your Winter Park roof leak?
Â
Today we are sharing the signs to look for when your roof is experiencing a leak. A leak is easier to fix than a whole roof, and handling a task as quickly as possible will prevent any serious damaging from occurring.
Â
Finding the Winter Park roof leak is probably harder than actually fixing it. Most of the time the water can enter the roof in one place and run down another place before it starts soaking into the ceiling. One of the many ways to locate a leak is by going to your attic and checking for moisture. Since some Winter Park homes don’t have an actual attic, we are going to share alternative ways to find the source of the problem.

Â
Inspect The Outside Of Your Roof
A simple walk around the outside of your home can help identify the problem. If you notice shingles on the ground or in your gutters this could be a sign that you may have a hole allowing water to go inside. If you notice a hole then you have a bigger problem than just a leak, because now you may need a roof repair.
Â
Inspect The Inside Of Your Home
Since most homes in Florida don’t have an attic, you will be able to see the water damage in your ceiling. Look for any moisture marks, brown yellow or gray stains, and peeling on walls that are painted. If you experience a sudden rise in energy costs, that can be a sign that your ventilation has been affected as well.
Â
Water Test
If you can’t find any missing shingles, you can apply the water test to your roof. You will need at least two people to assist you in getting to the top of your roof. One person will be inside the home and can stand where they see the water damage on the ceiling. The other person will make sure the ladder is secure enough for you to make your way to your roof.
Â
As you are attempting to fix your Winter Park roof leak, get a hose and water the roof in different spots. When the person inside the house tell you the water is starting to run again inside, you have located the leak on the outside.
